Biomarkers Discovered for Inflammatory Bowel DiseaseUsing the Department of Defense Serum Repository (DoDSR), University of Cincinnati researchers have identified a number of biomarkers for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which could help with earlier diagnosis and intervention in those who have not yet shown symptoms.

Researchers at the University of Cincinnati have found that incorporating a peer-referral program for HIV testing into emergency departments can reach new groups of high-risk patients and brings more patients into the hospital for testing.

Focus on Alumni With Kpandja Djawe, PhD

Guinea worm disease was in the news recently, and so was a College of Medicine alumnus who studies it at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Kpandja Djawe, PhD, earned his master's (2008) and doctorate (2011) in epidemiology, studying in the environmental health department's division of epidemiology and biostatistics.

Future Med Student's Lab Experience Fuels Passion for Medical Research

Richard Godby has always felt drawn to medicine. He's enthralled by the scientific discovery process. His biomedical engineering undergrad experience ingrained in him the value of translational research--moving promising ideas beyond the lab bench and into clinical application. This, teamed with his interest in medical research, led him to pursue a co-op in the lab of UC Cancer Institute researcher Vladimir Bogdanov, PhD.
