Notes: Gregory W. Rouan, MD serves as associate chairman for educational affairs in the department of internal medicine and vice-dean for extramural affairs in the college of medicine. He directs the internal medicine residencies and subspecialty fellowship training programs at the University of Cincinnati and has been recognized as a clinician-educator, clinician-scholar, and clinician-leader in graduate medical education (GME) since 1987.
Dr Rouan is a dedicated and talented educator who has been recognized by medical students, residents, and his colleagues for teaching excellence. He was chosen as teacher of the year (awarded only once per faculty recipient) by the residents and has received the silver apple clinical teaching award given by the graduating medical school class upon four occasions. Furthermore, Dr. Rouan's teaching excellence was recently recognized by the American College of Physicians with the prestigious master teacher award.
Dr. Rouan is very active nationally with the Society for General Internal Medicine (SGIM), the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM) and the ACP. He has chaired and served on many standing and program committees, abstract and workshop selection committees, the SGIM national council and as midwest regional president of SGIM. He has served on a variety of committees in APDIM to include the nominating committee for national officers. He has led and been involved with a number of symposia and workshops for both APDIM and SGIM. These included faculty development, outpatient teaching, curriculum development and other innovative issues such as recognizing and rewarding faculty teaching effort. He has chaired a variety of ACP regional committees and served as treasurer for the Ohio chapter of the ACP. He has been a fellow of the American College since 1988.
He has published more than 30 articles in peer review journals and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the Annals of Internal Medicine, the American Journal of Medicine, Academic Medicine and the Journal for General Internal Medicine (JGIM).
Dr. Rouan is extremely committed to a busy clinical practice in Cincinnati. Additionally, he has served as president of the Cincinnati Society of Internal Medicine and been a member of its board since 1992. He is also a member of the board of directors of Alliance Physicians and Surgeons (APS), Alliance Partners (AP), University of Cincinnati Medical Center Fund and University Internal Medicine Associates.
