Message from the Interim Division Director
George Atweh, MD
Welcome to the Division of Hematology/Oncology! The mission of our division is to contribute to excellence in patient care, teaching and research in the area of hematology/oncology. We are rapidly growing in all research, clinical and educational components. The division participates in investigator-initiated protocols, pharmaceutical or industry-sponsored studies, as well as cooperative groups, such as the Southwest Oncology Group and Radiotherapy Oncology Group.
The hematology/oncology faculty and staff serve patients at The University Hospital, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Barrett Cancer Center.
University hematology/oncology care provides infusion chemotherapy at the Medical Arts Building located at 222 Piedmont Avenue and at University Pointe in West Chester, Ohio.
In 2003, the hematology/oncology fellowship program was accredited for five years, and the fellowship positions have increased from six to nine positions. All the fellows are involved in daily clinical medicine and research.
The growth in the numbers and expertise of our faculty, the availability of multidisciplinary teams in various oncologic subspecialties, the heterogeneity of pathology, as well as exposure to various practice settings, creates an optimal atmosphere for hematology/oncology trainees.
