Dialysis Program Wins NIH Grant

Prabir Roy-Chaudhury, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension and UC Health and Cincinnati Dialysis Access Program nephrologist, received a $500,000 National Institutes of Health grant. In collaboration with Mark Meyerhoff at the University of Michigan, Dr. Roy-Chaudhury will test nitric oxide-generating arteriovenous grafts that have reduced the chance of clot formation in dialysis patients. Arteriovenous grafts connect the artery and vein and are essential for the removal and purification of blood during hemodialysis.

Dr. Roy-Chaudhury's clinical work focuses on kidney and kidney-pancreas transplantation and he is also actively involved in clinical trial research in both dialysis access and transplantation.
