Department Divisions Residency Programs Fellowships Research & Trials Calendar Faculty & Staff For Patients

The Department of Internal Medicine is deeply committed to its Research Mission. Recognizing that high quality research activities enhance the teaching, clinical, and service roles of the Department and serve to attract high quality graduate students to our Program in Pathobiology and Molecular Medicine; post-doctoral fellows; and faculty, the Department has established programs for Faculty Development and Faculty Research that work in concert to foster and support the research careers of the faculty and stimulate research efforts through formal programs and funded initiatives within the Department.

Faculty in each of the 9 Divisions within the Department engage in basic, translational, and clinical research that are often interdisciplinary and collaborative between the clinical and basic science faculty, with faculty in the Children's Hospital Medical Center, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the Colleges of Pharmacy and Education, and with laboratories world wide. Our clinical and basic scientists participate in a large number of disease-based Centers and Programs that have as their focus the implementation of cutting edge research-based treatments and diagnostics for their patients and include exceptional expertise in the treatment of AIDS, blood disorders, bone health, cancer, cardiovascular health, diabetes and obesity, health outcomes, infectious diseases, kidney-, liver-, pancreatic diseases and sleep disorders, interstitial or rare lung diseases and cystic fibrosis.

All have the goal of improving healthcare and delivery to patients.
